The atrocity apparently committed in the news story below is beyond words. Sadly, it is typical of many we report on day after day after day. I would like to hear one woman who self-identifies as a feminist condemn the girl's actions. Just one. What is so terribly reprehensible is not just the fact that a girl was willing to sacrifice the lives of three innocent boys to exact revenge against one of them, but that she was able to do it. There is something terribly, terribly wrong with a system that allows this. (Thanks for AfOR for tipping us off about this one.)

Rape girl 'confession' caught on camera

New evidence suggests a girl’s rape testimony, which sent three teenage boys to prison, may have been fabricated

A 16-year-old girl, whose allegation that she was raped at Fredericia train station resulted in the conviction of three teenage boys, unknowingly confessed on a hidden camera that she lied about the incident, according to public broadcaster DR.

The video was taped by one of the boy’s families and is presently being used as evidence in a Western High Court case to have the original convictions overturned. The girl is now being charged by police for fabricating the story.

In the video, the brother of one of the three boys approaches the girl and chats with her on a sofa. The video shows the girl flirting with the boy while he tries to draw the true explanation out of her of what actually happened at the station.

At one point while being filmed, the girl says she was not held down by two of the boys while the other raped her, as she testified in court. She added that the sex she had with the one boy was consensual.

The girl also said in the video that she made the accusations because she was angry at one of the boys. She added that it was unfortunate the two others were sentenced in the case, but said she couldn’t find any other way to get back at the one boy.

During the filming she said she would not recant her testimony for fear of being punished or ending up in a youth offender institution.

Julie Watts sentenced to jail for false rape allegation

A woman who made false rape allegations against her former partner has been jailed.

A judge told Julie Watts: "This can only be seen as a perverted act of revenge."

And he pointed out that such false allegations lead to jurors becoming "sceptical and disbelieving" when they try allegations of rape.

"Because, when they hear of people like you who make up these allegations on a whim, so genuine complainants will leave court disappointed because their assailant has been acquitted by sceptical jurors," said Judge Brian Lewis.

Liverpool Crown Court heard today that John McGuire was detained by police for a total of more than three hours after her lies.

"And for two months he was on tenterhooks worrying about the prospect of being wrongly convicted of these very grave offences and the possible consequences," said Judge Lewis.

He said he accepted that there had been some violence and intimidation in the couple's relationship.

"But that does not begin to justify any of this, particularly as by then your relationship was over."

Watts, 44, of Douglas Street, Birkenhead, pleaded guilty to attempting to pervert the course of justice and was jailed for eight months.

Damian Webb, prosecuting, said that on March 16 last year Watts went to the police and made the false allegations which she claimed spanned six years.

She falsely alleged that he had violently raped her, on occasions while armed with a knife.

A month later she made a retraction statement but it was not until May 23 that Mr McGuire was told that the CPS had decided not to proceed with the case.

Adrian Evans, defending, said that she had made her "foolhardy" decision to make the allegations because of poor thinking skills.

"She is deeply ashamed and embarrassed," he said.

The Roethlisberger case highlights the new victim blaming: men accused of rape

We have recently written that so-called "victim blaming" is, at the very least, overstated. It is used as a convenient rationalization to support the claim that underreporting of rape is rampant (you know the shtick: rape is not reported due to the fear of victim blaming). When "victim blaming" is used with respect to women, it is usually of two varieites: it's a manifestation of the wholly non-controversial belief that you gotta be careful because there are criminals out there. (Now that's misogyny, isn't it?) The other kind of "victim blaming" isn't really "victim blaming" at all -- it occurs when the speaker (almost always a woman, by the way) doesn't really believe that a rape occurred -- the accuser was "asking" for it, literally.

I do believe it is rare when people know that a woman actually has been raped but insist on blaming the rape victim. At least among men, it would be considered insensitive in the extreme.

Far more common is the victim blaming of men accused of rape. If you doubt that, take a look at the blogs discussing the latest sexual assault accusation against two-time Super Bowl quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He showed poor judgment. He shouldn't go to bars with young women. On and on it goes. Ben Roethlisberger went from being a gutsy, smart, champion competitor to a nitwit who needs to hide in his bedroom, swear off women, and live like a monk. Importantly, these comments generally assume Roethlisberger's innocence from criminality but nevertheless hold him responsible for the accusations. The comments barely discuss the accuser. She largely gets a free pass.

It's as if we're talking about humans beings who fail to take precautions by going near wild animals who can't help themselves but to attack.

But whether men are guilty of rape or women are guilty of false rape reporting, men alone are to be blamed.

Thank god for video surveillance. One wonders why she filed the false allegation to begin with. And at least she is named.

Lillian Palmer Arrested for false report of sexual assault

A Petaluma woman has been arrested for falsely reporting that she was sexually assaulted by an employee at a local convenience store.

Lillian Palmer, 23, contacted the Petaluma Police Department at 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday to report that while shopping there alone, she was sexually assaulted by an employee of the 7-Eleven store at 2000 Lakeville Highway, said Sgt. Andrew Urton.

Police officers then accompanied Palmer to the store, where she placed the employee under citizen's arrest for sexual assault. The employee was taken into custody and brought to the police department for questioning. The store manager was called, and subsequently provided security recordings from the store.

After reviewing the recordings, police determined that Palmer had falsely reported the crime to police. The employee was released, and no charges were filed.

Palmer was asked to come to the police department for further questioning, and when confronted with evidence, she admitted that no sexual assault had taken place. She later was booked into Sonoma County Jail for falsely reporting a crime, Urton said.

OT: Why was it so difficult to get rid of Navy’s female ‘Captain Bligh’?

Time Magazine reports: "The Navy removed [Holly] Graf from command of the guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens in January for 'cruelty and maltreatment' of her crew."

What took the Navy so long? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Navy moved slower than it should have because she's a woman. Large corporations have this discussion all the time -- firing incompetent women is often delayed because of a fear of a discimination claim. It's not right, and it's not fair, but that's the reality in our politically correct times.

We often hear from feminists about the alleged "glass ceiling" (so-called because no one can see it and we must take it on faith that it exists). It is a term often used by persons interested only in equal outcomes as opposed to equal opportunity. Most fair-minded people, and everyone who believes in the ideals America was built on, support the latter but not the former. But here's a thought: whether or not a "glass ceiling" exists, there does seem to be a glass floor. This means that once women are promoted to a position they shouldn't have, it's difficult to get rid of them.

Just sayin'.

Falsely accused soldier thanks our readers

Thank you for all your kind words. I am the author of the article and i really would like to extend my deepest thanks. When I was sixteen I was kicked out of my home. I had just turned seventeen by the time CYS(children and youth services) had taken me into there system. I was too old for a foster home so I was sent to a group home.

A group home is usually private owned and payed for by the state. I ran into the, "usual" in that system. The kids who had anger issues, foster kids with problems, and kids like myself who their parents had kicked to the curb. I was assigned a counselor who did help me quite a bit but didn't fix the problem completely.

My problem was I was smart and fat, which means i was a complete loser in high school. The only thing that can make you feel like I did is the movie, "white oleander." I was fat and a big guy which means I got picked on in High School. This of course didnt translate well to homelife and after a fight with my brother;in which my mom had to choose him or me. She chose my little brother.

After getting out of the system when I turned 18 (by choice u can choose to stay until 21) I had to live somewhere. My mom wouldn't allow me to live with her so I lived with my grandparents(matriarchial). I got a job at a telemarketing company which closed its doors and then with Mcdonalds. You have to understand all of this was while I should have been going to prom etc.

While at my job with Mcdonalds I walked into a local boxing gym. Within a year I had dropped 80 pounds to 210. My grandfather who i loved dearly was an army veteran a retired master sergeant. I walked into a army recruiting office and in almost a month I was off to basic training.

After basic training I was assigned to germany. It was awesome the clubs closed at 5am and for a 19 year old who can now drink it was the time of my life. I was considered a, "PT stud"(means I can run real fast and do alot of pushups and situps without resting) so life at work was going great. We were going to Irag in 3 months so everyone was partying harder than ususal.

I did my tour in Iraq and I won't explain my experience here. I was a combat engineer which means I was route clearance and cache search. That means we drive ahead of everyone and look for IEDS(improvised explosive device) or we look for hidden weapons or bombs etc. When we got back it was awesome.

Fast forwarding, I had just done my second tour. I was stop-lossed and now I got to go on leave for a MONTH, A MONTH!!!! I didn't even know what all to do, off for a month all that money I saved from two deployments I could go anywhere. Not only that but I would be payed for the month too.

I figured hey go out with my best friend %%%%%% for a couple of days then take a flight to wherever. Then the absolute impossible happened, something that the feminist group who came to my group home said never happened. I got accused of raping a woman.

Fast forwarding again, I have sought help for myself. I don't drink anymore unless its a social situation. If it is I leave the drinking at the bar. I still don't trust women, if it can happen once it can again. However I got better, this was in January (that I got better).

My rage when I wrote this is almost gone.

And I'm wondering this:

Why do these men HATE so much? It is ironic that they are angry at women who are angry at men for committing so much rape. Now, I have never been a GROUP HATER-- that is, i don't know if it was the way i was raised or a biological/personality sort of thing, but as much as i deplore (and get sick over) the crimes of violence against women, children, and men, i have not found myself Hating Men (the usual perpetrators). And by the way, the Primary Source of violence against men is also from Men.

But on this False Accu Site i find that 1) they are mad at (and poke fun with degrading and insulting language) women, feminists, etc. for supposedly being man haters due to rape.2) Then they take up that mantle and decide to model that behavior; that is, to become women-haters because some small percentage of women have wronged them in an egregious way.3.they then expand the hatred to anyone who works to alleviate the circles of pain caused by sexual assault.

Sadly, I am sure there is a need for a good supportive, truthful, educational site about false accusations. Too bad this one is so draped and saturated with anger, bitterness, and bile. I guess most groups have to go through, like an immature child, the tantrums of Justice Denied. It is hard to stay honorable, peacefilled, grown-up and loving after being attacked, isn't it?

and let me restate:-- the reason false reports --rare as they are--are so HORRIBLE is that the CRIME is so horrible.

My comment:
In my experience, some rape feminists choose to paint our blog in the manner you suggest because they are offended by the facts that we have the temerity to point out. They are also offended that we have the audacity to stand up to one college newspaper after the next that parrot sexual assault counselors who suggest that false rape claims are a "myth." They don't dare argue facts with us, mind you. They know that's an argument they can't win. Some of them have publicly wished for me to be brutally raped. Most simply retreat to defamation, by labeling us misogynists -- you see, we MUST hate women, because we cite objectively verifiable fact that shows that -- HORRORS! -- some women do lie about rape. Ah, mustn't let the truth interfere with a good feminist victim metanarrative. So it's "You are evil, we are good, and that's the end of the discussion."

That sort of ham-handed rhetorical trick might work in high school, or in a Women's Studies class, but we are too weary, too jaded, and lightyears beyond that. All due respect.

I recently stirred up a hornet's nest on my blog (believe it or not, I get more angry mail from true misogynists than from radical feminists -- who, ahem, are too timid to write to me directly, most won't even link to me) when I revealed how much mail I get from actual rape victims who support what we do. Surprising? Not to me. Their primary enemies are -- you guessed it -- false rape accusers, and they know how much damage false accusers do to actual rape victims. Too bad feminist rape advocates don't seem to care about that at all (and I mean, not at all). Who'd have thunk it! The people most affected by rape don't buy into the politicization that rejects anything I have to say at my blog, merely because I say it. They hate rape, as do I, and they hate false rape accusers, as do I. Too bad the rape advocates couldn't care less about the latter.

I have no control over my commentators and do not tolerate painting an enttire gender in a negative light. Read my comments policy. "Women" are not false accusers; SOME women are. Just as "men" are not rapists; SOME men are.

But you are correct about one thing: we are in a war with a nasty strain of feminism that insists false rape claims are a myth, and we aren't happy about it. Too bad our opponents are content to spread half-truths and outright lies, and to paint us as something we are not, rather than deal with us honestly. Rather than debate facts. Rather than JOIN WITH US so we can all eradicate both rape AND false rape claims. I've made that offer repeatedly but no one has ever responded to me.

Helping rape victims is wonderful; fomenting false accusations by suggestion evey rape claim must be true (which means the male who was accused MUST be a rapist), and denigrating the victimization of the falsely accused by pretending they are a myth, are morally grotesque.

I stumbled across a blog talking about the Ben Roethlisberger accusation

First, I took issue with some of the commentators who seemed to assume his guilt: Comment 35: Pierce H. Says: How many of these guys have to be falsely accused of rape before you all stop assuming they’re guilty based on nothing more than the say so of some anonymous woman and before a scrap of evidence is admitted at trial? Remember Jerome Bettis? We won’t even mention that lacrosse team that was hung out to dry for a year (by a D.A. who was disbarred and a woman who was just arrested for attempted murder). But by all means, go ahead — rush to judgment, blame the guy who might just be the victim here, and convict him in the court of last resort, the blogosphere. Because some women nobody knows anything about, accused him. Pathetic!

Among others, commentator Jen in Comment 68 said this: You say we shouldn’t rush to judgement against Ben based on a lone accusation, but this isn’t a lone accusation. This is the second accusation. Why don’t we see the same multiple accusations against other high-profile athletes? With a pattern of accusations forming, it makes you wonder. I am not saying I think he’s guilty, I’m just saying that you have to consider the fact he might be guilty, and not dismiss his accuser as a “whore” or “slut” outright.

I agree that the evidence that has been made public in the first accusation (never filed a criminal complaint, waited over a year, friends who said she told them it was consensual, etc.) doesn’t seem to substantiate the woman’s claim. However, the circumstances of this accusation are different (immediate reporting to police and immediate medical treatment).

Then, me again, in comment 80: It is simply not fair to make any assumptions about the accused or the accuser here. But it is well to note that this nation has a long and shameful history of rushing to judgment based on an accusation and assuming men and boys committed rape when it later turned out they didn’t. The reputational harm they suffer often destroys their lives. If Ben Roethlisberger were your father, son, husband, boyfriend, or brother, you’d want everyone to treat him as exactly what he is — presumed innocent.

Let’s take Jen’s astounding refutation of my comment: “. . . but this isn’t a lone accusation. This is the second accusation.” Aside from making me want to bang my head against the wall, I would add this: yes, Jen, we now have a second accusation — in a wholly separate, distinct case. The first was an accusation in a civil, not a criminal, case about which you, yourself, said “the evidence that has been made public in the first accusation . . . doesn’t seem to substantiate the woman’s claim.” Yet you are content to take that admittedly shaky accusation which has not resulted in even an adjudication of civil liability, coupled with this one about which NONE OF US knows anything about, to find a “pattern of accusations forming.” The dark and sinister innuendo concocted from such a weak brew is breathtaking.

I note in passing that the Scottsboro Boys had a “pattern” of accusations against them, too. Theirs is among one of the most shameful injustices in our history. Gerald Amirault also had a “pattern” of accusations against him — the palpable injustices against him in Massachusetts became a campaign issue in the recent election where the Democrats lost John and Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat.

But you need not go back very far if you’re searching for atrocities when it comes to false rape claims; you just need to recall recent news stories, which are reported in hushed tones because it’s a subject too politically incorrect to talk about out loud: The testimony of a false accuser in New York sent an innocent man to prison for a twenty year term based on no other evidence than her say so. Finally, the false accuser found religion, recanted, and he was released after four years of — you guessed it — the worst kind of prison atrocities. She was sentenced last week to three years in prison and landed on the front page of the New York Post.

This week, a serial false accuser in the UK named Gail Sherwood was sentenced to two years imprisonment. A woman’s group protested the fact that charges were even brought against her. Also this past week, a false rape claim at Penn State ignited a panic. When it turned out there was no rape, the university used the incident as an occasion to warn everyone to be careful of rapists. Go figure.

At Hofstra University recently, a student falsely accused four young men of gang-raping her in a dormitory bathroom. Based solely on her word and nothing else, and despite their strenuous denials, the young men were immediately arrested with bail set high enough to insure they wouldn’t get out. Only then did police bother to review the video evidence to find that she lied. She recanted, they were released, but she, of course, was not sentenced to any jail time. The poor thing lied because she didn’t want her boyfriend to know that she had willingly engaged in group sex.

Another New York girl recently accused three teens of rape, and even after she recanted, one of the teens spent months in prison.

In Richmond, California earlier this year, a 17-year-old girl’s rape lie landed the suspect, her boyfriend, behind bars for three days because she was angry at him for something. Weeks later, a 15-year-old girl falsely cried rape in the same town.

At Loyola U. recently, a student falsely claimed she was sexually assaulted by three fellow students. And a 32-year-old woman recently falsely accused three younger men and a juvenile male of raping her at a party. In Florida recently, a fifteen-year-old girl falsely accused four 17-year-olds of forcibly raping her. Another boy sits in jail over a rape allegation made by the same girl just the previous month.

Have you heard about the black woman who recanted her previous claim that she’d been gang raped by seven white men now serving prison sentences? Even Al Sharpton wants that recantation taken seriously — and that will tell you something. What about the group of four men cleared of gang raping a 21-year-old woman after they claimed she invited them back to her apartment and engaged in consensual sex? Or the 25-year-old woman who falsely claimed, in graphic detail no less, that six men (including her boyfriend) gang raped her? Or the 16-year-old schoolgirl who had the temerity to falsely accuse six of her male classmates of seriously sexually assaulting her multiple times over several hours on a playing field? Or the 25-year-old hairdresser who falsely claimed five men raped her, but her lie was uncovered when it was discovered that a phone camera had caught her in the act of having enthusiastic, consensual sex with two boys (yes, boys)? And I could go on and on.

Is Ben guilty? I have no idea. And neither do you. If it turns out he’s not, will all you who are rushing to judgment promise to come back and talk about that? You see, the initial rape report is big news. The fact that the accusation turns out to be false or that there is nsufficient evidence to bring charges is often grudgingly reported. When three University of Arkansas players were accused of an alleged rape incident at a fraternity, a local television station actually broke into the station’s regular programming to provide a four-plus minute breaking news report about the accusation. Needless to say, when the prosecutor decided not to bring rape charges against them, there was no similar coverage.

Please, ladies, tell me it’s not true (but even if you tell me, how can I believe you?)

Now, tell me, ladies -- tell me how the hell I'm supposed to feel when I read about a book like the one quoted below? Tell me how this squares with my work as one of the few people in America writing objectively about the problem of false rape claims? And no matter what you tell me, tell me how I can believe you?

In Little White Lies, Deep Dark Secrets, Susan Shapiro Barash explains how women "tell all sorts of lies," and for women, lying is a way of life. It's also perfectly understandable -- and really not their fault:

"A woman's lies to friends, children, husband, lover, adult siblings, and co-workers are societally induced -- it's a tool used when we're missing out, when the life we dreamed of eludes us, when the going gets tough. It's interesting how a woman recognizes a lie coming from another woman (men often miss the lie, as do children, especially sons) and often endorse the behavior. Unless a woman's lie deliberately hurts another woman, it's as if we all belong to the same club, where the expedience of our lies proliferate and rule the day."

The last sentence makes my skin crawl. A male commentator at Amazon.com said this: "The interesting thing is the amorality of the writer and the female deceivers."

And you feminists think it's fair that a gender of expert liars can send an innocent man to prison on the basis of her uncorroborated word?

I am going to be citing this book in my arguments against the corroboration rule from now on. The tone in the quote above that seeks to understand the culture of lying is almost celebratory. The suggestion that it's OK to lie if only a male is hurt by it is morally grotesque. To say that all this is off-putting to someone concerned about false rape claims is a gross understatement. Unfortunately, that quote mirrors a culture that manifests itself on this site day in and day out -- where the truth is held hostage to a woman's selfish need to lie for the sake of expediency, often at a terrible cost to innocent men and boys.
