Gemma Scoones, 27, made second false rape allegation
| Contributor: | False Rape Society [source] | |
| Date: | August 31, 2010 |
Heavily pregnant Gemma Scoones, 27, stood before Judge Michael Taylor in the dock at Durham Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced for perverting the course of justice.
Last year, Scoones was given a 12-month jail sentence by the court after she admitted a similar offence involving a false rape allegation against her estranged husband, Anthony Scoones, following the break-up of their relationship.
Mr Scoones, who later spoke about his ordeal to The Northern Echo, was arrested, held in a police cell for a day and was only released after his former wife told officers that she had made the story up.
For the latest offence, she was given another 12-month sentence, but this was suspended for two years and was accompanied by a supervision order involving the Probation Service.
Judge Taylor told her that it was a serious offence that deserved an automatic custodial sentence and said that she had made an “atrocious allegation”.
“But what saves you from an immediate sentence is that I see you are heavily pregnant and it would not be fair on your child to be born in prison,” he said.
He said it was fortunate that no one had been arrested in this latest case.
Lesley Kirkup, prosecuting, gave a brief outline of events, saying that on April 18 Scoones reported to an ambulance crew that she had been raped.
She was taken to hospital where she repeated the allegations, despite being challenged about her account.
Ms Kirkup said that medical examinations were carried out at the hospital and that police searched her home.
However, the officers were unable to find the string she had maintained was used in the attack.
When officers asked her again about her story she told them she had made it up.
“At the end of the day she has accepted she was never raped,” Ms Kirkup told the court.
Scoones, of Hardwick Street, Horden, near Peterlee, east Durham, but formerly of Newton Aycliffe, had admitted the offence at a previous hearing.

Some Democrats who get it.
| Contributor: | Hawaiian Libertarian [source] | |
| Date: | August 31, 2010 |
My favorite anti-communitarian, Nikki Raapana, linked to a website that I could scarcely believe even existed...DEMOCRATS AGAINST U.N. AGENDA 21.
UN Agenda 21 IS the blue-print for the NWO's subversive take over of the world. Most modern day democrats are useful idiots for the would-be globalist world government apparatchiks at the UN.
Not these.
We are registered Democrats, life-long, who have become aware of the United Nations Agenda 21 negative impacts on our local, regional, and national government.
We are civil rights advocates, pro-choice, and pro-gay marriage, who until recently considered ourselves 'progressive Democrats.' We are university educated, middle income professionals who seek to make common cause with others in the United States who share our concerns.
We are engaged in educating ourselves, our peers, and our country about UN Agenda 21, ICLEI, Sustainable Development, Smart Growth, Form-Based Zoning, Green Energy Mandates, Carbon Offsets, Cap and Trade, Redevelopment and other programs that restrict our land rights and civil rights. This vitally important information transcends party lines and illuminates much of what we have witnessed over the past two decades.
So what the hell are these folks talking about?
Have you seen or heard any kind of advertisements or public announcements in your community lately, calling for a "neighborhood summit?"
Read: Neighborhood Summit: It's not about watering petunias!
On August 21 the city organized 'summit' for neighborhoods will take place (see my 5/26/10 post). I attended the first steering committee meeting so that I could see who was in charge of this. The UN sponsored Neighborhood Alliance, a group of handpicked people who purport to speak for their community; the Leadership Institute of Ecology and the Economy (two of the three cornerstones of UN Agenda 21); and the city's Community Advisory Board, another supposed grassroots group sponsored by the city but appointed by the council. Not coincidentally, the chair of the Community Advisory Board is also the executive director of LIEE, and is also the main organizer for this 'summit.'
I have submitted a request for a table at this event. Let's see if I get it.
Why is the city doing this now? They want to identify and sideline opposition in the community while identifying those who want to be handmaidens of the groups manipulating public opinion.
This is how the UN is gradually seizing control of our communities all across the country, under the guise of "sustainable development."
Does that phrase sound familiar?

Australia: More Rorts for "Victims" of DV – Female Ones Only Of Course
| Contributor: | Men's Activism News [source] | |
| Date: | August 31, 2010 |
The gravy train for victims of DV (female only) just gets longer and longer here in Australia. Universities in Australia are mostly publicly-funded so it is only a small step until this becomes a mandatory benefit for all female public servants. Just another way for taxpayers' (mostly men) money to be handed over to females. Of course no mention of male victims of DV even though it is becoming almost impossible for the media, governments and academics to keep denying the irrefutable truth. -- Great Southern Lander
Excerpt:
'Victims of domestic violence will get an extra 20 days of paid leave a year as part of a historic clause in an enterprise agreement.
In a first for Australian workplaces, the Public Service Association of NSW has been negotiating with the University of NSW to allow its workers to take special leave to attend court, counselling or a doctor.
The union has also written to Premier Kristina Keneally, urging her to include the domestic violence provisions in the award that covers many of the state's 300,000 public servants.
Ms Keneally asked the Department of Premier and Cabinet to meet the union. Preliminary talks were held this month to discuss a statewide domestic violence clause.
The clause will also ensure bosses cannot sack or suspend an employee if their attendance or work performance suffers because of domestic violence. Human resources staff will receive training in domestic violence issues.'

Article here. I’m not sure how credible the author is, or how credible the publication (note the article’s poor use of effective paragraphs). But I suppose that all press is good press. The men’s rights activist mentioned in the article, Domingo Gonzalez Alonso, has a Spanish-language blog here.

Feminism going too far in Spain, “men’s lib” claims

Madrid (dpa) – Women’s rights need to be defended, most Spaniards agree – but do men need their own liberation movement as well?
Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero’s progressive women’s rights policies have sparked a debate on whether his campaign for the equality of the sexes has gone too far.
Spain’s gender legislation ‘discriminates against men,’ who are not protected adequately from female violence against them, men’s rights activist Domingo Gonzalez Alonso claims.
Men also have few rights in situations of separation or divorce, the spokesman for the Ambos association defending divorced men told the German Press Agency dpa in a telephone interview.
The government rejects such arguments and accuses the critics of downplaying centuries of male oppression against women.
Zapatero, a self-confessed feminist, took a strong stance in favour of gender equality by appointing Spain’s first half-female cabinet after his election victory in 2004.
After winning a second term in 2008, Zapatero created Spain’s first Equality Ministry.
Legislation adopted in 2004 turned Spain into one of the most progressive European countries regarding women’s rights, the government says.
The law defines gender violence exclusively as male violence against women. Violence exercised by women against men comes under ordinary criminal law.
Men should be penalized more severely than women for similar acts of domestic violence, the Constitutional Court confirmed in a recent ruling.
More than 100 special courts – as well as special police teams – handle cases of men threatening, coercing or physically attacking their current or former wives, live-in partners or girlfriends.
Around 45 women have been killed in cases of gender violence in Spain so far this year. Despite Spain being known for its macho culture, the figure is not particularly high in European terms. About 40 per cent of the victims were not Spanish, but immigrant women.
The law on gender violence obliges the media to inform the public about cases of women being killed by their husbands or partners.
‘Meanwhile, 18 men, 25 children and 16 grandparents have been killed this year in situations of domestic violence, but the media take hardly any interest in them,’ Gonzalez complains.
He quotes the case of a young man who says his live-in girlfriend pushed him down the stairs in the southern city of Huelva.
‘He broke his collarbone, but she called the police and accused him of violence. He was arrested and ordered to keep away from her. She can continue living in the house, which belongs to him, until the court case is resolved. That could take about a year.’
Some Spanish judges and authors have also accused women of falsely charging men with gender violence.
However, there is little evidence of that happening on a wide scale, and the debate now focuses on fathers’ rights after divorce or separation.
The mother traditionally gets custody of the children in more than 90 per cent of the cases. That entitles her to continuing to live in the family home and to getting alimony from her former husband.
‘Many men have been left homeless, because their wives found someone younger or just could no longer stand the sight of them,’ Gonzalez says.
So far, only one of Spain’s 17 semi-autonomous regions – the northern Aragon – has adopted legislation aimed at generalizing shared custody of children. Judges there can oblige mothers to share custody with fathers in the absence of adverse factors such as violence.
Advocates of shared custody say it allows fathers to be more present in their children’s lives, and also favours women in that it allows them to work more outside the home.
The government has rejected making shared custody the national norm. Irresponsible fathers could claim custody of their children only for economic reasons, government gender violence delegate Miguel Lorente Acosta pointed out.
Critics of the government’s equality policies failed to realize that gender violence was not just a question of some men losing their tempers, Lorente Acosta told the daily El Pais.
It was a ‘problem of patriarchy, of a cultural and social model based on inequality,’ he stressed.

Police: Woman Lied About Sexual Assault
| Contributor: | False Rape Society [source] | |
| Date: | August 30, 2010 |
Amanda Little, 26, of Oxford, initially told police that she was kidnapped while walking in the parking lot of the Walmart at about 1 a.m. on Dogwood Drive on June 24, investigators said.
Little said she was taken to an undisclosed location and sexually assaulted, said police.
Upon further investigation, and after reviewing video from the Walmart parking lot, police said Little’s story simply didn’t add up. She later admitted to detectives that she lied and told them that she had been having sex at another location when her cell phone, which was in her back pocket, accidentally dialed the number of her boyfriend’s friend and left a voicemail recording, police said. Little said she came up with the abduction story as a cover up, investigators said.
“Our detectives did a good job with ferreting out the truth here. We are an agency that focuses in on the needs of our victims, and cases like this simply are a waste of time and tie up valuable police resources,” Conyers police said.
Little is charged with the false report of a crime.

Allstate not listening– time for action

From Abusegate Bob:
Last week we alerted persons about Allstate Insurance Company’s flawed DV statistics: http://www.allstate.com/foundation/about-domestic-violence.aspx. Many responded, but as seen from the four responses below, Allstate still doesn’t understand that DoJ crime reports provide a biased depiction of DV.
So folks, it’s time we send a powerful message to Allstate: CANCEL YOUR POLICY…AND DO IT NOW!

Dear Mr. A:
You recently contacted us regarding the Allstate Foundation’s on-line resources about ending domestic violence, and your e-mail was brought to my attention. Thank you for sharing your feedback, which is important to us. I would like to take a moment to personally respond to your concerns.
In regard to The Allstate Foundation Domestic Violence Program, I think it would be helpful to first share some background information regarding our involvement with this worthy cause. The Allstate Foundation joined with the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) in 2005. Since this partnership began, we have been committed to promoting economic empowerment strategies that can help to reduce the domestic abuse that plagues many households. Also, the programs the Allstate Foundation supports have positively influenced many lives and were chosen based on research provided by the United States Department of Justice.
However, please keep in mind that even though the Allstate Foundation is unable to financially support certain programs it doesn’t mean we don’t recognize that both men and women may be living in abusive situations.
We appreciate your comments, and we thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Honest feedback like yours helps us to more fully understand the issues that are being faced by so many every day.

Dear Dr. D,
Thank you for taking the time to look into our domestic violence program and for your clear passion to fight this issue that impacts so many people. We try to keep our program gender-neutral and certainly do not wish to exclude any victims of domestic violence, male or female. We believe our program and website reflect this commitment. While we acknowledge that domestic violence impacts both men and women, our work is guided by studies by the U.S. Department of Justice studies and many others showing that women comprise the vast majority of domestic violence victims. One such study found that women make up 84% of spouse abuse victims and 86% of abuse victims by a boyfriend or girlfriend.[1]
We hope this helps to clarify our position on the issue. Thank you for your comments.
Sincerely,
The Allstate Foundation

Sask. woman admits making up nightmare sex-assault tale
| Contributor: | False Rape Society [source] | |
| Date: | August 29, 2010 |
SASKATOON — A Saskatoon woman with a long history of mental-health problems pleaded guilty to a mischief charge this week over a phoney sex-assault tale that prompted a full-scale river search.
Michaela Rose Brown was 19 when she called 911 with a horror story on Sept. 10, 2007.
Brown said she had been sexually assaulted by a group of five males who had followed up the attack by tying her hands behind her back and dumping her into the river.
When officers found her, she told them she'd been with a female friend, who had also been tied up and thrown in the water.
The city's emergency responders swung into high gear to scour the shoreline for the missing woman, calling out canine units, a police plane, divers from the fire department's water rescue team and ambulance personnel.
Meanwhile, Brown was taken to hospital — where she refused to co-operate when staff tried to perform a standard sexual-assault kit on her, Crown prosecutor Deb Black told court.
After turning up nothing at the river, police went to the home of the supposedly missing woman, where they found her, safe and sound.
The friend said she had not been with Brown at all that day. When they confronted Brown, some confusion arose about whether she might have given the wrong last name for the missing woman, so police decided to continue the search, Black said.
During an interview with a police sergeant about four hours after she first called 911, Brown admitted she'd fabricated the whole incident.
Police learned she had a long history of mental-health problems and was under the care of a psychiatrist, court heard.
Brown's false allegation cost Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services about $7,000 — and that doesn't include the hours of work expended by a large number of police officers, Black told court.
Defence lawyer Michelle LeClair-Harding said Brown, now 22, has struggled with her mental health since she was a child and that, as a child, she was in and out of foster care and was exposed to physical, emotional and sexual abuse, as well as domestic violence.
At the time of the incident she was not taking medication and was going through a period of "teenage angst," LeClair-Harding said.
Judge Donna Scott accepted a joint recommendation from the Crown and defence to give Brown an 18-month suspended sentence, during which she will be on probation and must take any treatment or medication prescribed to her, and attend any programming ordered by her parole officer.
